Can't Wait to See How They Celebrate Valentine's Day

My sister, completing her first week at New College in Sarasota, forwards the following announcement from one of the school's feminist advocacy groups:

Just a last minute reminder. Tonight is Vagina Craft Night. This is the first event leading up to this year's Vagina Monologues, which will take place Feb. 12, 13, and 14 at 7 pm in Sainer. Tonight we will be meeting in the Gender and Diversity Center at 7 pm to do crafty vaginal things. All are certainly welcome, whether you have a vagina or not. See you there!!

Oh boy! Crafts!

I don't know quite how to take that invitation non-invitation extended to us males.

I remember when guys used to craft models of a cock and balls out of the rolls in my high school lunch room. But that was masculinist oppression. This on the other hand is just a healthy expression of feminine sexuality. Right?

"Crafty vaginal things." Ooooooookay.

Well, damn. There goes my prudish reputation. I wonder how this notice made it into your mailbox, since it didn't arrive there through, say, my volition.

Take a wild guess, beloved sibling o'mine. :)

It sound fabulous. Unfortunalty, I don't think men can really say anything about this event. There are phallic symbols in art and architecture all over the place, especially in D.C. I recently saw the Washington Monument for the first time. There is no way around it folks, they knew exactly what they were doing when that was constructed. There are many other examples... The Eifel tower, the Empire state building, etc. These women might not be very interesting or creative in there attempts to recraft the vagina but it is a response to something much BIGGER. But size isn't everything, right fellas?

I think there might be a virtue to at least not talking about the fact that you made a giant monument that's a phallic symbol. And the same going for the giant vanginal symbol, whatever the heck that would look like. I don't care if you wanna build it, heck I sure would enjoy it, but at least do it with class.

And "crafty vagina night" if anything, according to current social convention, lacks class.

Yup, that's the sort of thing I'd expect from New College. My guess is you'll be hearing of all sorts of other interesting things. New College kind of has a reputation around here.
