You know what I love most about Major League Baseball? It's not the popcorn, the summer breeze, or even the call of "let's play two!" It's the Pirates player clubbing the Brewers' giant Italian Sausage mascot in the back with a bat. I've watched the video half a dozen times, and I want to watch it for the rest of the day. It gets better each time.

Mandy Block, the 19-year old woman better known as the Italian Sausage, gives her thoughts: "From my point of view, it's crazy because I am not used to like being interviewed or anything. I'm like, 'I'm just a sausage, guys. It's not a big deal. I'm fine.'"
No charges are being pressed, although Pirates player Randall Simon has been fined $432 dollars by Majot League Baseball. That's enough money to buy 108 Italian sausages at a typical ballpark.
Posted by: mesh at July 11, 2003 03:58 PMActually Randall Simon was fined $432 by the District Attorney for disorderly conduct. The Pirates responded by saying that they "do not condone Simon's behavior and will address the issue internally." Whatever that means. Maybe they will make him run around dressed up like a hot dog and have fans take swings at him. Now that is a video that I would watch over and over again. I'm not sure that Major League Baseball ever got involved.
Only in America do you have millionaires that are fined $432 dollars for smacking a sausage with a bat.
I myself have been fined for smacking a sausage with a bat...but lets not bring up old crap....
Posted by: JosiahQ at July 11, 2003 05:29 PMI guess MLB now has gotten involved. It is funny that MLB would fine Simon more than the civil government would. I guess they realize how much money he actually makes.
Posted by: bhuffine at July 11, 2003 09:49 PMit doesnt matter how much money he makes. he wasnt fined in civil court. he was fined by a criminal court and the fine would have been the same for anyone. there is no reason why you should get fined more because you make more. the mlb fines him more as your link says "to make a statement." i believe simon was just being silly and that he knocked her over by accident and he said so himself (not that his testimony is necessarily credible).
